How does Two-Factor Authentication work?
When you want to sign into your account, you are prompted to authenticate with a username and a password – that’s the first verification layer.
Two-factor authentication works as an extra step in the process, a second security layer, that will reconfirm your identity.
Its purpose is to make attackers’ life harder and reduce fraud risks. If you are already using strong password, two-factor authentication will make it more difficult for cyber criminals to breach your account.
At DSX you can have several 2FA methods switched on and choose which one to use to reconfirm your identity during the login.
Two-factor authentication using Google Authenticator:
The second most popular additional authentication method is Google Authenticator. You set up the app and scan the QR code given upon the setting of that two-factor authentication method.
You will be required to enter a 6-digit code which will be generated by Google Authenticator app
Two-factor authentication using Security key:
Security key is a special device or hardware component that allows you to confirm your authenticity when logging into an account. What differs that method from the previous two is that the Security key is an actual physical device which makes it more secure than SMS and Google Authenticator which can be accessed remotely.
If you use external hardware token, it can use USB, NFC or BLE to access your account when it is requested. Once the authentication is completed, you can remove the key.
We support FIDO2(WebAuthn) protocol to allow authentication with the Security key.
